Course Objective

This course aims to examine the formal and generic evolution of folk poetry in pre-Islamic and post-Islamic periods and to compare the traditions of anonymous, minstrel, and religious folk poetry.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will identify the traditions of anonymous, minstrel, and religious folk poetry.
2   Students will distinguish between various poetic forms and genres.
3   Students will analyze poetic samples in terms of structure, style, and theme.
4   Students will evaluate the historical and social contexts of poetic traditions.

Assessment Criteria

Students will be required to take a midterm exam and a final exam as part of the course. The format of these exams (written, multiple choice, etc.) will be announced to students by the instructor during the week prior to the exam week.
