Course Objective

To teach how to read and write the Turkish script with Arabic letters, which was used by the Turks for about a thousand years from the 10th century to the beginning of the 20th century, and to ensure that students benefit from the works produced with this script as reference works. To ensure that Arabic and Persian elements are mastered and that the types of writing are recognized.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   They will recognize letters, numbers and signs in the Ottoman alphabet.
2   They will know how to read Arabic, Persian and Turkish words.
3   They will be able to read and write Ottoman Turkish texts.
4   They will be able to translate texts into today's Turkish.
5   They will be able to analyze Ottoman writings.
