Course Objective

The aim of this course is to put forward and discuss in a practical fashion some ideas on how to analyse EFL coursebooks in a systematic and meaningful way. Such an analysis is a useful tool in evaluating the potential of a coursebook when matched against the learning objectives of the language teachers.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand the role of textbooks within the curriculum for language teaching
2   To discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using textbooks in ELT
3   To distinguish between different textbook evaluation models
4   To evaluate textbooks in the market with their strengths and weaknesses according to a given criteria
5   To know different techniques of adapting published materials
