Course Objective

The aim of this course is to give information to preservice teachers on political geography and the main perspectives on political geography; to get the students to comprehend political, military and economical organizations which are present on the world due to physical, human and economical reasons in political geography, in a systematic way, by examining on the scale of the World and Türkiye; to transfer the effects of these factors on development of countries comparatively, and to interpret national and international policies which Türkiye should take.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Analyze the emergence and power resources of states.
2   Classify states according to their political structures.
3   Evaluations on the politically problematic regions in the world.
4   Analyze the position of Türkiye in the Balkans-Caucasus-Middle East triangle, between Central Asia-Caspian Sea Basin countries, European countries and African countries and the advantages-disadvantages, caused by this.
5   Evaluations on operational objectives of regional and global political organizations.
6   Interpretations political activities in the country and the consequences of these.
7   Comprehend how the attainment of 'patriotism' can be transferred to students within the scope of Türkiye's geopolitical-geoeconomic-geosociocultural and geostrategic position and importance.

1 Position of political geography in geography science, use of tools and materials facilitating spatial analysis and the learning; positioning through latitude relations by benefitting from maps, and determining land forms and natural sources together with climate zones.
