Course Objective

Within the scope of this course, it is targeted to address; understanding basic concepts with regard to environment and environmental problems; perceiving reasons of environmental problems, and basic environmental problems on national and global scale; determining steps which should be taken in solving these problems; and addressing environmental education in teaching programs (curricula) of social sciences.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Addresses environmental problems in World and Türkiye, their reasons, consequences and regional distributions, from a universal point of view.
2   Questions relationship between environment-natural resources, use of natural resources-environmental problems and possesses the required accumulation of knowledge.
3   Comprehends that natural resources should be used consciously where the needs are limitless, but natural resources are limited.
4   Understands the importance of environmental awareness and learns how to train individuals who are sensitive to the environment within the scope of environmental education in teaching programs (curricula) of social sciences.
5   Possesses knowledge on implementations which are effective in preventing environmental problems or in reducing their affects.
6   Makes suggestions on how environmental problem will be solved.

1 Basic Ecological Concepts and Principles; ecosystems, food chains, food chains, habitat, competition; symbious life and mutual living, flow of energy, circulation of matter.
2 Within the Scope of Dissolving Ecological Balances; description of environmental problems, their scopes, types; reasons (development process) and a general Outlook on their reasons (development process) and consequences.
3 Environmental Pollution; a- Air pollution (Acid rains), b- Water pollution
4 Environmental Pollution; c- Soil Pollution, d- Radioactive pollution
5 Environmental Pollution; e- Noise ve Light pollution (factors, their concequences and prevention).
6 Environmental Pollution; f- Food pollution, g- Extinction of species.
7 Misuse Land; Destruction of Natural Vegetation Cover-Deforestation, Erosion, Desertification, Extinction of Species; Misuse Land; a-Misuse Land (in general), b- Destruction of natural vegetation cover-Deforestation

12 Rapid Population Growth and Environmental Problems Caused by It; a-Environmental Problems Caused by Urbanization: I- Visual (Landscape) Pollution, II- Unplanned Urbanization-Squattering, Urban climate-hot island etc.
13 III- Solid Waste (Rubbish) Problem A General Outlook on Solutions for Environmental Problems and Actions which Can Be Taken (Environmental Awareness and Environmental Protectionism, Environmental Impact Assessment, Ecological Agriculture, Sustainable Agriculture, Institutions, Organizations and Studies Carried Out on Environmental Sensitivity in World etc.).
