Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of Ottoman Turkish necessary to read and understand Ottoman history using primary sources.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the importance of Ottoman Turkish.
2   Know the Ottoman language of different periods.
3   Recognize the Arabic and Persian grammar elements in Ottoman texts.
4   Use Ottoman Turkish dictionaries.
5   Read printed documents in Ottoman language.
