Course Objective

Create mathematical foundations of probability and teach concepts of probability that make up the theoretical background of statistics. Learn about statistical concepts and informed about its application fields.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have information concerning the probability concepts.
2   Apply the concepts related to statistics.
3   Apply statistical estimation techniques to solve problems (statistical hypothesis testing, confidence interval estimation).
4   Apply concepts and information acquired in real-life problems and evaluate the results.
5   Explain the knowledge acquired and conclusions by correct use of language in a discipline.

1 Basic principle of counting, The concept of permutation and applications
2 The concept of combination and applications, Binomial theorem
3 The concept of probability, the basic concepts about probability, Probability axioms and applications
4 Conditional Probability and Bayes Theorem
5 The concept of random variable, probability function, probability density function, Expected value and variance of random variables
6 Moments, Moment Generating Function
7 Some discrete and continuous distributions (Bernoulli, Binomial, Poisson, Normal, Exponential) and their properties
8 General review, course evaluation, midterm exam
9 Sample and basic concepts, Regulation and analysis of data
10 Descriptive Statistics
11 Sampling distribution and estimation, The concept of confidence interval
12 Hypothesis tests
13 Significance tests base on Chi-Square
14 Regression and correlation analysis
15 Final Exam
