Course Objective

The aim of this course is to make pre-service teachers competent in the planning, implementation and interpretation of experiments in chemistry courses at the secondary education (9th-12th grade) level in accordance with scientific principles. It is aimed to develop students' ability to conduct chemistry experiments safely, to evaluate experimental processes pedagogically and to teach concepts through experiments.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Plans and applies the experiments in the secondary chemistry curriculum within the framework of the scientific method.
2   Explains the use of experiments for pedagogical purposes (concept teaching, elimination of misconceptions).
3   Defines the errors that may arise in experiments and suggests solutions.
4   Creates student-centred teaching designs through experiments at secondary education level.
5   Uses critical thinking, problem solving and co-operation skills effectively in the experiment process.
