Course Objective

The aim of this course is to establish a comprehensive framework for understanding the definition of biology, its sub-disciplines, significance, influence on human life, historical development, and core concepts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Defining biology.
2   Interpreting the significant of biology for live.
3   Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in biology.
4   Advocating the importance of water for living organism.
5   Defining and explaining the biomolecules, structure and function of cells.
6   Understanding species concept and taxonomic structures.
7   Differentiating animate and Inanimate structures, knows the properties of viruses.
8   Knowing the structure and properties of plants.

2 Water and the fitness of the environment, carbon and the molecular diversity of life
3 The structure and function of macromolecules
4 An ıntroduction to metabolism
5 A tour of the cell
6 Membrane stucture and aunction, cell communication
7 The cell cycle
8 General review, course evaluation, midterm exam
9 Diversity and classification of lives: animate and ınanimate structures
10 Lives science: viruses and bacteria (archae and real bacteria)
11 Eukaryotic (protista,fungi, plants and animals)
12 Species concept and taxonomic ttructures
13 Viruses, monera, protista, fungi. the structure of plans and their features
14 Tissues (vegetal tissues, divisible tissue, changeless tissue)
15 Final exam

Assessment Criteria

Students will be required to take a midterm and a final exam as part of the course. The format of these exams (e.g., written, multiple-choice) will be announced by the course instructor prior to the exam week.
