Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide information about what addiction is, types of addiction, risk factors, protective factors and intervention methods.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding the types of addiction and developing critical thinking.
2   Reviewing scientific understanding regarding the etiology of addictions including genetic, psychological, environmental and social/cultural factors.
3   Presenting clinical assessment tools commonly used and understand their role in planning treatment and intervention.
4   Considering the influences of psycho-social and cultural effects in relation to addictions.
5   Discussing the ethical considerations related to research and the treatment of addictions.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The homeworks will be assessed by directly adding to the mid-term scores. The exam dates will be indicated in the lesson plan. As the exam dates become definite, the previously announced dates may change.

Assessment Criteria

Participation in the course is requested, the book of the course is expected to be followed regularly, those who have presentations are expected to do it at the specified time, full participation in surveys, quizzes and similar activities is expected, exams, assignments and presentations must be delivered on time.

It is obligated to continue to at least 70% of lessons.
Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceedings.
The instructor has right to make quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
