Course Objective

The aim of this course is to explore the definition, areas, importance, impact on our lives, and historical development of genetic biotechnology; to understand the fundamental principles of modern genetic sciences such as Mendel's theories, crossbreeding, cytoplasmic inheritance, natural selection, adaptation, mutations, molecular biology, and gene technology; to gain knowledge about human genetics and genetic diseases; and to provide students with knowledge and skills in areas such as biotechnological applications, microbial biomass production, metabolite production, antibiotic and enzyme production, genetic biotechnology, and environmental biotechnology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Analyzing the structure and function of nucleic acids in living systems.
2   Describing DNA replication and recombinant DNA.
3   Demonstrating an understanding of the process of protein synthesis.
4   Explaining how mutations in DNA affect protein synthesis.
5   Showing how the results obtained by Mendel lead to the development of the law of segregation.
6   Explaining the meanings of the terms character, gene, allele, locus, mutation, and dominant.
7   Explaining the meanings of the terms recessive, genotype, phenotype, homozygous, and heterozygous.
8   Applying the principles of inheritance to solve problems.

Students' knowledge of Genetics and Biotechnology will be evaluated through midterm and final exams.

It is obligated to continue to at least 70% of lessons .
Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceedings.
The instructor has right to make quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores.
