Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to identify potential biological, chemical, and physical hazards in the laboratory environment, to take necessary protective measures, and to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to prevent or eliminate possible accidents.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Having knowledge about principles of laboratory safety.
2   Understanding the coralation between risk groups and biosafety level.
3   Applying safe laboratory practices.
4   Having a knowledge about factors effects risk and precautions.
5   Assessing laboratory risks.
6   Determining the relationship between the concepts of accident and safe working conditions.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The homeworks will be assessed by directly adding to the mid-term scores. The exam dates will be indicated in the lesson plan. As the exam dates become definite, the previously announced dates may change.

Assessment Criteria

Fundamental theories and concepts related to laboratory safety will be assessed through exams, assignments, portfolios and projects.

Every trial to copying will be finalized with disciplinary proceeding.
The instructor has right to make quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes will be directly added to exam scores
