Course Objective

­Enable students to make connections between chemistry and daily life by explaining chemical concepts and events in daily life. Encourage students to wonder about simple or complex things that happen in everyday life.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Understand the Role of Chemistry in Biological Processes Explain the chemical processes that occur within the human body and their implications for health and nutrition.
2   2. Apply Chemical Principles to Everyday Cooking Analyze the chemical reactions involved in cooking and food preservation, and evaluate the impact of various food additives.
3   3. Assess the Role of Chemicals in Hygiene Discuss the chemical principles behind personal hygiene products and their effects on health and the environment.
4   4. Evaluate the Impact of Chemicals on Health Identify various household substances, including textiles, cosmetics, and paints, and evaluate their safety and potential health effects.
5   5. Analyze the Chemistry of Plastics Investigate the chemical properties of plastics, their applications, and their environmental impact.
6   6. Explore Nutritional Chemistry Examine key nutrients and their biochemical roles in human health, with a focus on dietary sources and recommendations.
7   7. Describe Soil Chemistry and Its Importance Evaluate the chemical composition of soil and its significance for agriculture and environmental sustainability.
8   8. Demonstrate Knowledge of Chemical Technologies Illustrate how chemistry drives technological advancements in various fields, including medicine, agriculture, and industry.
