Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable prospective teachers to establish the multifaceted relationship between mathematics and daily life; to contribute to the development of mathematical thinking, problem solving and modeling skills. It is aimed for the candidates to both strengthen their theoretical knowledge and to reach the competence to provide meaningful and functional mathematics education integrated with life to their students by applying this knowledge in real-life contexts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to explain the relationship between mathematics and daily life.
2   To be able to express problems encountered in daily life situations mathematically.
3   To be able to develop appropriate mathematical models for examples taken from daily life.
4   To be able to use multi-dimensional and creative thinking skills in the mathematical problem solving process.
5   To be able to adapt mathematical activities developed in the context of daily life to the grade level.
6   To relate mathematics with interdisciplinary (STEM, art, science, technology) approaches.
7   To be able to effectively transfer mathematical information in different contexts and make instructional adaptations.
