Course Objective

To teach the process of converting raw textile materials into finished products and the finishing processes applied. For this purpose, to teach pre-treatments, dyeing, printing and finishing processes, dyes, dyeing-printing methods and machines and textile ecology by supporting visual samples.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to define the scope and importance of textile finishing
2   to define the process and steps in the process of converting raw textile products into finished products in general
3   define textile dyes and their basic properties, dyeing-printing methods and techniques, special printing techniques, dyeing-printing machines; choose appropriate dyes and methods depending on fiber and design,; define the first dyeing-printing factories established in Turkey.
4   to define finishing processes
5   to define textile ecology and its criteria

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Scope of Textile Finishing, its place and importance in the sector, basic processes in textile finishing and dyeing / finishing systems
2 The purposes and methods of pretreatment processes: Raw control, singeing, desizing
3 The purposes and methods of pretreatment processes: Mercerization, basic treatments, bleaching, enzymatic treatments
4 Introduction to coloring processes; color concept and its formation, classification of textile dyes, fastness properties, dyeing methods and machines, the first dyeing-printing factories in Turkey
5 Differences between dyeing and printing technology, printing methods (direct, discharge, resist, transfer printing) and their basic differences.
6 Printing methods (direct, discharge, resist, transfer printing) and their basic differences.
7 Textile dyes; properties of pigment, reactive, direct, vat, disperse, acid and other dyes, dyeing-printing properties of dyes depending on fiber types and recipes.
8 Textile dyes; properties of pigment, reactive, direct, vat, disperse, acid and other dyes, dyeing-printing properties of dyes depending on fiber types and recipes.
9 Printing technologies (Roller, rotary, flat screen, digital, transfer)
