Course Objective

Environmental issues have become more important on the global political agenda over the last 50 years, due to the increasing risks for the future of human life and prosperity. Environmental sensitivities have been reflected in political thought and policy-making at all levels of global politics. With the adoption of the concept of sustinable development, multiple poltical actors have tried to find ways to create development without causing environmental degredation. This course aims to present a comprehensive understanding of different ideas, actors, cooperation and conflict patterns in environmental politics, around main themes such as climate change, biodiversity and pollution.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Develop awareness of and ability to discuss issues related to the agenda of global environmental politics (PO-11)
2   Explain main policies, policy making processes and cooperation mechanisms about the environment (PO-9)
3   Develop a global perspective of environmental ethics and justice (PO-7)
4   Develop skills necessary to prepare a term project evaluating an issue in the field of global environmental politics in an academic manner. (PO-8)
5   Develop language and communication skills during participation in class and presentations (PO-2)
