Course Objective

The aim of the course is to enable students in the field of Political Science and International Relations to learn how to conduct research within the framework of ethical rules by establishing cause-effect relationships and applying research methods.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Understand a range of research methods, techniques and skills and how they can be used to address particular research questions.
2   2. Diagnose the related issue; define the problem statement regarding the studies issue; ask the valid research questions.
3   3. Perform a literature review and synthesize existing knowledge and research related to the research question.
4   4. Design data collection methods, devices to collect, identify qualitative and quantitative data and material.
5   5. Apply appropriate tools to analyze data.
6   6. Write research project proposals to address particular research questions.
7   7. Communicate and discuss research projects and issues with others in written and verbal forms.
8   8. Develop problem solving and analytical skills.
9   9. Develop and enhance the essential interpersonal skills to be an effective team member.
10   10. Develop oral/written communication skills; articulate and defend his/her position.
11   11. Recognize and deal with ethical issues arising in the conduct of research.

Assessment Criteria

1. The learner will state the basic terms and concepts related to scientific research.
2. The learner will explain the rationale behind making a scientific research by making a literature review, by asking a research question, by collecting and analyzing data and coming to a conclusion.
3. The learner will diagnose the related problem and recommend solutions depending upon the results of the studied issue.
4. The learner will categorize the details regarding data collection and analysis methods.
