Course Objective

Examining the life, political representation, and political rights of Turkish women during the political transformations from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey.
Relating changes in political structures to feminist theory and explaining processes of change and transformation.
Defining political institutions and women s rights from a gender perspective.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1-Evaluate the impact of political change processes in Turkey from the Ottoman Empire to the present day on the position of women in politics from a historical perspective.
2   2-Interpret political transformation processes in Turkey and the accompanying social change.
3   3-Analyze political transformation processes in Turkey and public policies from a critical perspective in terms of women's rights and equality principles.
4   4-Evaluate the rate of women's participation in politics at the local and national levels from the Ottoman Empire to the present day in relation to political transformation processes.
5   5-Relate the approach to women in party programs to political transformation in Turkey.

4 Being a Woman in the Ottoman Empire II Constitutionalism, the Committee of Union and Progress, Women A presentation will be made.
5 Turkish women and representation during the National Struggle A presentation will be made.
6 The search for women's rights in the political arena of the Republic A presentation will be made.

9 Women in local and national politics from the Democratic Party to the 1960 coup A presentation will be made.
