Course Objective

To equip oboe students with reed-making skills to optimize their instrument performance.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Gain the ability to recognize and analyze the basic structure and components of an oboe reed.
2   Apply various reed-making techniques such as shaping and balancing.
3   Learn to select and process materials (cane, wire, thread) used in reed making.
4   Produce their own reeds and adapt them for rehearsal and performance settings.
5   Evaluate the reed's compatibility with the instrument to improve sound quality.
