Course Objective

This course aims to analyze contemporary issues emerging in human rights law within the context of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Recent developments in areas such as freedom of expression, women's rights, and environmental law will be examined within the legal framework shaped by ECtHR judgments, and their impacts on national legal systems will be discussed. The course will equip students with the ability to follow ECtHR jurisprudence and provide an opportunity to critically assess current developments in human rights law.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The scope and protection mechanism of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) are explained.
2   The judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) are analyzed.
3   Current human rights issues are evaluated within the framework of ECtHR case law.
4   The impact of ECtHR judgments on domestic law is discussed.
5   Legal developments related to human rights are critically assessed.
