Course Objective

This course focuses on the post-production phase, which combines the creative and technical aspects of the filmmaking process. It clarifies the differences between the concepts of editing, montage, and cutting, and examines how different directorial approaches influence editing processes. The montage philosophies of auteur filmmakers and the practice of the director's cut are explored in terms of their roles in reshaping film narratives. The course covers the post-production workflow, montage techniques, continuity editing, and sound montage principles through both theoretical and practical approaches. The aim is to help students understand film editing not merely as a technical task, but as a creative process closely tied to narrative and aesthetics, and to provide them with hands-on experience through assignments and a final project.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explains the theoretical differences between editing and montage, and analyzes the impact of different directorial approaches on postproduction processes.
2   Evaluates the function of montage in film narrative and interprets the relationship between editing structure and storytelling.
3   Understands the entire postproduction workflow and critically assesses its creative and technical dimensions.
4   Applies technical knowledge and software skills to develop short-format projects through editing and sound design.
5   Designs an original short project by integrating a selected montage technique with a creative narrative approach, and evaluates it in terms of technical, aesthetic, and narrative coherence.
