Course Objective

Covers the information needed about Internal Medicine and Hematology, Dermatology and Neurology Psychiatry in dental practices.

1   Knows the definition of health and disease.
2   Knows basic physiology and systemic diseases.
3   Knows bacterial, fungal and viral diseases.
4   Knows autoimmune diseases and collagen tissue diseases
5   Knows the concepts of mental health and disease.
6   Knows the brain-behavior relationship and neurological diseases.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Definition of health, disease state, physiology and definition of systemic diseases
2 Medical history - questioning - physical examination in systemic diseases
3 Identification and interpretation of basic examinations in systemic diseases
4 Approach to patients with diabetes mellitus and their emergencies
5 Approach to rheumatological diseases (autoimmune diseases, connective tissue diseases, Behcet's disease, giant cell arteritis, etc.)
6 Approach to hematological diseases (bleeding and clotting disorders, anemia, leukemia, etc.)
7 Approach to dermatological diseases; (drug eruptions, urticaria, angioedema, oral mucosal diseases...)
8 Approach to viral bacterial fungal infections and parasitic infestations and transmission precautions
9 Basic information about basic life support and advanced life support
10 Approach to internal medical emergencies(1) (syncope, anaphylaxis, allergic reactions, etc.)
11 Approach to internal medical emergencies(2) (hypoglycemia, hypertensive attack, tachycardia, bleeding, etc.)
12 Neurological evaluation and approach to basic diseases
13 Psychological assessment and approach to psychiatric conditions
14 Drug side effects and management (osteonecrosis of the jaw, mucositis, etc.)
15 Approach to geriatric patients
