Course Objective

It is aimed to provide information on biopsy indications and techniques, preprosthetic surgeries, the pathogenesis and treatment of odontogenic infections, apical resection, odontogenic and non-odontogenic cysts, osteomyelitis, and maxillary sinus diseases, and to teach students to make decisions regarding referral to a specialist when necessary.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Defines the drugs used in dental practice and the rules for writing prescriptions.
2   Explains the microbiology and pathways of odontogenic infections.
3   Identifies the clinical features of lesions originating from teeth and gingiva.
4   Applies diagnostic and treatment principles for jaw and facial infections such as local abscesses and osteomyelitis.
5   Explains biopsy and differential diagnosis principles and applies them to clinical cases.
6   Compares surgical treatment approaches for oral mucosal lesions.
7   Performs soft and hard tissue assessment in pre-prosthetic surgical applications.
8   Develops a treatment plan in preprosthetic surgical procedures.
9   Analyzes classification, clinical signs, and treatment methods of jaw cysts and tumors.
