Course Objective

Evaluation, imaging and treatment planning of caries, periodontal disease, dental crowding, missing teeth and complaints caused by these in the oral cavity. Determination of systemic diseases and evaluation of oral complications, developmental anomalies of the oral region, odontogenic cysts, non-odontogenic cysts, odontogenic tumors, non-odontogenic tumors, vesiculobullous diseases, ulcerative lesions, white lesions, red lesions, pigmented lesions, verrucal-papillary lesions, connective tissue lesions, salivary gland diseases, lymphoid lesions, teaching the clinical evaluation of malignant lesions of the jaws.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explains the relationship of lymphatic system diseases with the oral, maxillofacial region and possible complications.
2   Applies appropriate imaging methods according to case indications.
3   Analyzes salivary gland diseases based on their clinical and radiological characteristics.
4   Analyzes temporomandibular joint diseases by correlating them with radiological findings.
5   Analyzes paranasal sinus diseases and their possible dental relationships.
6   Analyzes cysts and tumors of the jawbones according to their radiological characteristics.
7   Analyzes the clinical characteristics of white, red, pigmented, and ulcerative lesions of the oral mucosa.
8   Analyzes the clinical and radiological findings for the early diagnosis of premalignant lesions and oral cancers.

1. The student should know the panoramic, cephalometric, hand-wrist radiographic techniques and be able to apply the panoramic technique.

2. The student should know and be able to diagnose the pathologies localized in the jaw bones.

3. The student should know and be able to diagnose the oral soft tissue pathologies.

4. The student should be able to define and diagnose the paranasal sinus pathologies and soft tissue calcifications.

5. The student should be able to define advanced imaging techniques.
