Course Objective

It is aimed to understand the orofacial system and to learn about malocclusions that may occur in orofacial functional disorders.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Defines the anatomical and functional components of the orofacial complex.
2   Explains correct breathing techniques.
3   Applies correct breathing techniques.
4   Defines the proper swallowing mechanism.
5   Performs a clinical assessment of the correct swallowing mechanism.
6   Defines tongue thrust behavior.
7   Explains the effects of tongue-thrust behavior.
8   Explains the effects of mouth breathing on orofacial functions.
9   Defines skeletal malocclusion.
10   Explains the clinical signs of skeletal malocclusion.
11   Outlines treatment approaches for orofacial functional disorders.
