Course Objective

The course focuses on the sociological analysis of urban and migration phenomena with examples from the world and Turkey. In this context, the focus will be on the city, the historicity of cities, urbanization, urban theories, migration, types of migration and migration theories. Afterwards, the main aim of the course is to discuss urbanization and migration dynamics in the light of their different dimensions and current problems.



Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To explain the relationship between the city, urbanization and migration phenomena
2   To be able to analyze the dynamics of urbanization in the historical process and urbanizations of different countries
3   To be able to relate the basic determinations of urban and migration theories with current examples
4   To be able to discuss urbanization and migration dynamics in Turkey in the context of their causes and consequences
5   To be able to analyze the urbanization and migration dynamics of neighborhoods in Izmir with a group field research assignment
