Course Objective

To teach the process of turning the raw textile materials into finished products and applied finishings(chemical/wet and mechanical/dry). To examine and teach pre-treatments ,dyeing,printing,and finishings dyestuffs, methods and machinery by supporting visual samples.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   define the importance and content of textile finishing.
2   generally define the process of how raw textile materals turn into products and production steps.
3   .define the pre-treatments before colouring textiles.
4   .define textile dyestuffs, dyeing-printing methods and techniques, to select suitabl e dyestuff based on fibre and design.
5   define basic finishings.
6   define textile ecology and criteria
7   define processes in production depending on the properties of textile product designed.

Course Contents

1 Content of textile finishing,its place and importance in the sector, basic applications in textile pretreatment and finishing and dyeing/finishing systems
2 Pre-treatments: aim and methods of raw material control, singeing, desizing
3 Pre-treatments: aim and methods of merserization, scouring, bleaching , enzimatic treatments
4 Introduction to colouring processes; the concept and occurance of colouring, classification of textile dyestuffs, fastness properties, dyeing methods and machinery.
5 The differences between dyeing and printing technologies , methods of printings (direct, discharge, resist ,transfer printing methods) and basic differences.
6 Printing Technologies (roller,rotary,flat screen,digital,transfer
7 Printing Technologies(roller,rotary,flat screen,digital,transfer)
8 Special printing effcts, from the point of view textile and fashion design
9 Natural dyes
10 Chemical finishings
11 Chemical finishings
12 Mechanical finishings
13 Current developments and trends in textile finishing technology, dyeing-printing defects, quality, performance properties and required control tests of textiles
14 Eco textiles: ecological properties and importance of textiles , production opportunities of eco textiles
