Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable the students to experience the discovery of basic fine arts tools in the course of their fundamental education and to develop the skills concerning seeing and modeling with the aid of various painting techniques.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To discover the basic tools of fine arts.
2   Revealing individual experiences regarding seeing and modeling.
3   To have the students experiment with opportunities presented by artistic techniques.
4   Drawing as a form of pictorial expression and discussion of various approaches concerning drawing in the course of history of art.
5   Having the students to make figure drawing and still life studies --mainly utilizing pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolor and gouache techniques.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Introduction. Acknowledgement about the content, progression and operation of the course. Introduction of the required materials with regard to the studies to be made, and information on how to obtain them. A talk about the meaning of drawing. Discussion of various approaches to drawing with typical examples made throughout the history of art.
2 Discussion on visual elements such as dot, line, form, color, texture and plane. Studies of still life subjects.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

To start a sustainable dialog with the students through mutual conversations about their works, thus helping the unique individual elements to come out in the works produced. To reinforce the topics by presenting samples of artworks, making reading suggestions and watching movies/videos.

Whether the student is persistent and conscious in his attitude during the creation process aimed at solving the given artistic problem...The question of whether the produced works carry the clues of a consistent process that reveal an artistic identity concerning the forming of a unique visual language... Whether the works are satisfying with regard to quantity and quality.
