General Description

History

Master of Foreign Trade with thesis is related to Dokuz Eylül University, Social Sciences Institute Department of International Business and Trade and started to offer courses with the University Senato 11/09/2012 date and no. 405/07 decision. The programme started teaching and education in 2012-2013 teaching period. Master of Foreign Trade with thesis offers theory and practice based interdisciplinary courses which integrate management, economics, accounting and finance, marketing, international trade, international business management courses in order to develop strategies and generate solutions for complex international business problems by considering the effects of international enviromental factors in dynamic structure of international business arena. The language of education is English.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree) diploma; a minimum score of 55 from the Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 50 from the Foreign Language Exams (ÜDS/KPDS/YDS/e-YDS/YÖKDİL) or from equivalent foreign language proficiency exam approved by OSYM or a minimum score of 55 from DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test. Transcript; a minimum score of 65 from the graduate school academic proficiency exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Profile of the Programme

There are still 19 instructors in Dokuz Eylül University, Social Sciences Institute Department of International Business and Trade Master of Foreign Trade with non-thesis programme. 85 computers in faculty computer labs, rest rooms and faculty library are eligible for post graduate student use during 08.30 am 22.00 pm. There are thesis library, computer lab and wireless to support students thesis and Project studies. The language of the courses offered in the programme is English.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of the Foreign Trade Master with Thesis programme are employed at planning or operation departments of foreign trade companies; at finance and marketing departments of firms operating at international level; in organizations which are directly related to foreign trade such as banks, local, regional or international trade agencies, chambers of commerce, free trade zones, economic development agencies. Graduates of this programme can also be entrepreneur in foreign trade area or can continue to his/her academic career.

Master of Foreign Trade with Thesis Programme covers two teaching semesters and a thesis. Programme offers in the first semester five core courses, in the second semester four core courses. In the two teaching semesters overall nine core courses and one elective course are offered. For the first semester all courses are obligatory but in the second semester four courses of the five are obligatory and one is an elective course. In addition for two semesters two courses for scientific preperation are offered by the programme. Students are responsible for completing their thesis studies in the third and forth periods. There is not any prerequisites for courses. The first semester of the programme an introduction to international business area are made with the courses such as Geo-Economic Areas, Global Economics and Trade, International Business Management. The second semester leads students to a specialization with courses like Export-Import Project Management, Global Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management and one elective of the elective courses such as Global E-Commerce, Standardization, Certification and Quality in Foreign Trade, International Trade Finance, Trade Intelligence ManagementStatistical Data Analysis, EU as a Global Trade Partner. Students continue specialisation with thesis. Following, evaluating and interpreting trends in global environment and managing export and import operations, strategic decision making in international business area are important.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS) a seminar (3 ECTS) and field study (3 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) in total 120 ECTS credits Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
