Course Objective

This course provides an overview of the fundamental concepts of substance abuse with a special emphasis on risk and protective factors influencing substance misuse. Also, primary ,secondary and tertiary preventions in managing drug abuse is discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the biological ,psychological and social origins of substance addiction.
2   Describe the different theoretical approaches used to guide intervention in substance addiction
3   Design prevention initiatives suitable for various groups
4   Synthesize theoretical knowledge in the development and design of original interventions
5   Synthesize theoretical knowledge in the development and design of original interventions
