Course Objective

The course provides a study of basic theories , principles, and techniques of counseling and of their application to therapeutic settings. Focus is on facilitating the continuing advancement of professional knowledge and skills through the presentations of techniques and strategies for working with persons from various backgrounds.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Acquire an in-depth understanding of a specific approach to psychotherapy that is of personal interest or relevance
2   Demonstrate an understanding of the organizational dynamics as a learning/growing environment for children and youth
3   Understand the importance of research in advancing the counseling profession
4   Understand theories and etiology of addictions and addictive behaviors including strategies for prevention, intervention and treatment.
5   Demonstrate an understanding of general principles and methods of case conceptualization, assessment and /or diagnosis of mental and emotional status
