History |
Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Linguistics was founded in 1998. Our department continues its educational and scientific activities with 7 instructors and 3 lecturers. 5 research assistants who are appointed within 35th article under the scope of 2547 number of Higher Education Law. |

The department of Linguistics admits students on the basis of the criterion of foreign language score by means of YGS which is held by ÖSYM. |
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
The educational experiences of our students before the registration to the department of Linguistics are evaluated within the scope of The Regulations Concerning the Basics of Transferring the Credits between Institutions, and the Basics of Transfer between the Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree, Double Major and Minor in High Education Institutions. Provided that the student has already completed some of the courses existing in the educational plan successfully in previous institutions in which s/he has his/her education, s/he can be held exempt from all or some of the courses in accordance with the adaptation committee. |
Qualification Requirements and Regulations |
In order to graduate from the Undergraduate Program of Linguistics Department, it is required that the students complete all the courses equivalent of 240 ECTS offered in the educational plan of 8 semesters, and they have the 2.00 grade point average over 4.00. |

The objective of the undergraduate program of the department of Linguistics: to raise linguists who are equipped with the knowledge, skill and competence that may serve in any field on which linguistics can be applied; who have the social sense of responsibility and ethical values; who can interpret the effects of the changes and developments in local and global dimensions over linguistics by following them; who transfer the theoretical knowledge they acquire into practice; and who develop their existing potential under national and international conditions. |

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples |
This degree enables the holder to exercise the profession in the public or private enterprises. The graduates may be employed as Turkish or English lecturers within the body of university rectorate and the school of foreign languages, and they may be employed as a research assistants within the body of faculties of university. In addition to academic career, our graduates may, in a successful way, as well carry out such duties as translators, consultancy in visual and audio communication units of various companies, editor in institutions operating in media and advertisement, copywriting, inspectorship in terms of correct language use in domestic and foreign correspondence of official or private institutions, and ad writing in advertisement agencies. |

Candidates who successfully completed their undergraduate educations may take their graduate studies in such fields as Linguistics, Turkish Teaching, and Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language and Translation Studies. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
Various assessment and grading methods for each course within the Undergraduate Curriculum of Linguistics Department may be used such as written examination, oral examination, homework preparation, conducting a research, graduation project or class performance evaluation. The method of assessment and grading applied in each course has been defined in detail in "Course Introduction Form". |
Graduation Requirements |
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 / 4.00 and 240 ECTS.Graduation requirements are as stated in the chapter Qualification requirement and regulations. |
