Coğ 101 General Geography I (3–0)

General objectives of Geography and methods, Sub-sections of Physical Geography; The topics of Topography, Climatology, Soils and plants properties. General objectives of Geography and methods, Sub-sections of Physical Geography; The topics of Topography, Climatology, Soils and plants properties.

Coğ 103 Fundamentals of Geomorphology I (2-2)

Basic principles of geomorphology and its relations with other disciplines. The movement and properties of earth crust, orogenic and epirogenic movements.

Coğ 105 Map Reading and Cartography I (1-2)

General map knowledge and making map.

Coğ 107 Klimatology I (2-2)

Atmospheric pressure and winds. The distribution of pressure and winds over the world; their yearly trends and circulation in the atmosphere. The factors which affect the winds; major wind system over the world; local and general winds; distribution of winds in the atmosphere.

Coğ 109 Introduction to Human Geography I (2-0)

The general principles of cultural geography. Culture spreading, culture of the folk, popular culture, visual cultural elements, cultural ecology and cultural aspects, cultural differences as language and religion. Functional cultural regions.

Coğ 111 Hydrography I (Streams and Lakes) (2-0)

The elements of hydrological cycle (precipitation, run-off, evapotranspiration, infiltration capacity, interception etc.). Current analyzes. Stream regime types. The factors which affect the stream regime. Stream energy and stream forms. Stream loads and carrying materials. The stream erosion, accumulation activities and their conclusions. Various drainage types and the agents which play the role in forming drainage types.

General objectives of Human Geography and methods,Sub-sections of Human and Economic Geography; The topics of Agricultural, Demographical, Communication and political geography.

River types; the erosion and deposition of rivers; their formations and their effect upon humans

Coğ 106 Map Reading and Cartography II (1-2)

Drawing of topographical and isohyets. Evaluation of the topographical maps. Drawing of topographical profiles and preparation an application of profile series.

Coğ 108 Klimatology II (2-2)

Water vapor in the atmosphere, the types and causes of condensation, fog and haze phenomena, degree of cloudiness.Precipitation and its types, the devices which measure moisture and precipitation Air masses, fronts and their formations, major climate types observed over the world.

Coğ 110 Introduction to Human Geography II (2-2)

The principles of the population geography, policy of the population and the theories (classics, socialists, optimum population theories) increase of population and the activity (migrations) distribution, density, quality and the quantity features of the population on the world.

Coğ 112 Paleogeography (2-2)

The scientific branches which directly related to paleogeography (paleoclimatology, paleontology, climageomorphology, historical geology, stratigraphy, radiometry etc) and their contribution to paleogeography. To make use of natural sciences which investigate actual natural conditions and properties by using of the principle of “actualizm” to enlighten ancient paleographical conditions. To evaluate the data which bring to light the paleogeographical conditions with some examples.

Coastal geomorphology, volcano geomorphology and iceberg geomorphology The factors, which were effective in the formation of these topographic structures; their development and major formations.

Coğ 203 Soil Geography (2-0)

The old and new soil classification system and the soil of Turkey.

Coğ 205 Vegetation Geography (2-0)

The effects of the growing conditions of vegetation in relation to the varieties of vegetation type and communities in Turkey. The classification and examination of the growing conditions of vegetation according to their heat, humid-precipitation and light inclination in Turkey.

Coğ 207 Energy and Mineral Depoits (2-0)

Region rich in mineral deposits of main energy sources; coal, petroleum, natural gas. To get through and process of coal, petroleum, natural gas.

Coğ 209 General Economic Geography I (3-0)

The history of the agricultural activities, the distribution areas of the traditional and the modern agriculture, the principals of agricultural crop pattern on the world, agricultural regions, animal breeding and the distribution of them, classificiation and distribution of the fisheries on the world, the main foresty areas and the activities on the world.

Coğ 211 Settlement Geography I (2-0)

The conditions to determine a place as a settlement. The first settlements (paleolitic and neolitic settlements) the types of rural settlements on the world (due to function and time) the distrubution of rural settlements and the reasons which effect the distribution (physical and humanistic conditions) rural dwellings (types of dwellings and contruction materials)

The research methods used in geography. The use of the concept of distribution. Reasons and relevance of geographic research. Applications and methodology.

The distribution of the industrial regions; transportation and trade, and the areas effected the areas with intensified transportation systems (highways, maritime lines, railways, airways and pipe line) and effects on trade.

The conditions of existence of urban settlements. The cities of ancient times, the cities of middle age. The effects of industrial revolution on cities, the cities after industrialization and the modern cities. The problems of cities and the problems originated in urbanization (according to developed and under developed countries) the projections of urbanizations and prudences about future.

Coğ 301 Methods of Climatology (1-2)

Presentation of climatic data with graphics, maps and other symbols.Drawing of temperature and rainfall maps and graphics. Determination of climatic types according to Erinç formula and determination of water balance table according to Thorntwaite method.

Coğ 303 The Physical Geography of Turkey (3-3)

The forming conditions, ages and distributions of the areas which constitute the geological structure of Turkey. Orogenic and epirogenic movements, volcanism and earthquakes in Turkey and their effects. Slope and elevation conditions of Turkey. The roles of internal and external forces in forming of Turkey. The main morphological units (mountains, plains and basins, plateaus) of Turkey. Karstic and glacial land forms in Turkey.

Coğ 305 Human Geography of Turkey (3-3)

Natural population increase in Turkey (births and deaths), the distribution of outmigrations and inmigration, the age, sex, health, , educational features of Turkish population according to family structure, employment and economic sectors. The first settlements of Turkey. Rural settlements (related to function and time), dwelling types, distribution of rural settlements, urbanization in Turkey, functional citie types and distributions, city and urbanization problems. Projections of the urbanization.

Coğ 307 Regional Geography of Turkey I (4-4)

Region concept and the approaches related to geographical region classification. The criteria used for determination regions, subregions and districts of Turkey. The natural properties of Aegean Region (climate, vegetation cover, soil properties, hydrographical properties and land forms). The human geography of Aegean Region. The economical properties of Aegean Region (agriculture, industry, tourism, transportation, energy sources and mines).

Coğ 309 Political Geography I I (2-2)

The main features relating to physical and human geography, the opinions about political geography, domination theories (territorial, nautical, air,space). Present political conjecture of the world (the constitution after cold war ) and the brent line (South-north countries), relations between cultures.

Coğ 311 Countries Geography (2-2)

Understanding the physical, socio-economic properties of each countries in the world.

Coğ 313 Geographical Information System (3-3)

Principles of GIS, Raster data, vector data, digitizing, interrogate, examining some program (netcad…).

Coğ 315 Land Classification and Land Degradation (2-2)

Various land classification types and their comparison. US land capability classification system and its criteria (climate, elevation, slope, drainage, physical and chemical properties of parent material and soil, socio-economic factors etc). Physical and chemical land degradation derived from miss-use of the land and natural causes. The conclusions of land degradation. Socio-economic factors playing a roles in land degradation.

Coğ 319 Geographical Priciples of Industrilization (2-2)

The natural environmental condition, socio economic activities which is effecting the industrialization. The changes at the geographical components from the first industrialization till present which caused to industrialization.(increasing the raw materials, development of transportation and the communication activity of capital and technology) the new approaches to determine the establisment places (environmental effect evaluation and the international pacts).

The drawing and evaluation of wind roses: The drawing and evaluation of wind speed diagrams. Determination of the dominant wind directions according to Rubinstein formula.

Coğ 304 The Physical Geography of Turkey (3-3)

The effects of planetary and physical factors on the climate in Turkey. Monthly and seasonal temperature, precipitation, humidity and evaporation conditions. Temperature and precipitation regimes. Main climatic regions of Turkey. The hydrographic properties of Turkey (running waters, lakes, underground waters etc). The vegetation formations and vegetation regions in Turkey. The soil types, forming conditions and disturbing of the soils in Turkey. Erosion and its conclusions in Turkey.

Coğ 306 Economical Geography of Turkey (3-3)

Learning the economic profile according to periods from the past till today (Otoman period, 1923-29, 1930-39’s, 1940-46’s, 1947-60’s, 1961-80’s, after 1980’s). Economic crisis and the results. The development process of the economic sectors and their places and the importance in general economy. Comparing economic sectors in Turkey with the world. Economic projections.

Coğ 308 Regional Geography of Turkey II (4-4)

The natural properties of Mediterranean Region (climate, vegetation cover, soil properties, hydrographical properties and land forms). The human geography of Mediterranean Region. The economical properties of Aegean Region (agriculture, industry, tourism, transportation, energy sources and mines).

Coğ 310 Political Geography II (2-2)

Changed political balance according to globalization on the world. Political relations during rebuilding process, the Mediterrenean world problems within Turkey, Europe, Middleeast and the relations with Turkey.

Coğ 312 Countries Geography (2-2)

Understanding the physical, socio-economic properties of each countries in the world.

Coğ 314 Geography and Regional Planning (3-3)

Principles of regional planning, examples of studies of regional planning.

Coğ 316 Economical Geography of the World (2-2)

The economic processes from the past till present, the economic balances at the present condition on the world and the trends from the past to the future, economic globalization, international capital activities and the global crisis, international finance organizations (IMF, WB) and regional economic union (NAFTA, EFTA ect.)

Coğ 320 Voccational Foreign Language (English)(2-2)

The English terms which express area and region. Idioms and terms related to position and direction in English. The terms related to elevation and other topographic properties. The expressions and terms related to crust movements and geological formations. The expressions and terms related to land dimension. The terms related to comparison, variation, change, quantity and rates and their usage. The terms related to climate and their usage. The translating techniques related to geographical issues.

The main features of political geography relating to physical and human geography. The opinions concerning with political geography. Domination theories (territorial, nautical, air,space). Concepts of Ecosystem, ecosystem approach the definitation of ecosystem criteria. Ecoregions of the continents. Humid tropical system, the dry ecoregions. The humid temperature ecoregions, mountain ecoregions case studies from Turkey.

Coğ 405 Tourism Geography (4-4)

Tourism and recreation activities. The kinds of tourism. Tourism organizations. Touristic establishments. The appearing of the demand in Tourism. The socio-cultural, environmental and economic effects of tourism. The importance of accommodation, attractions and transportation factors in tourism. Global movements of tourism and the developing of the tourism in Turkey. Sustainable tourism and eco-tourism. The tourism potential of Turkey.

Coğ 409 Field Investigations in Geography(3-3)

Constituting the limited groups which are active about physical geography subjects as Geology, geomorphology, soil, vegetation, land classification, ecosystem and human and economic geography subjects like population, settlement, agriculture, industry, land use, tourism. Mapping the field researches, at the consequence analysing the relations with natural environment and socio economic activities.

Coğ 411 Thourism Geography of Turkey (2-2)

The available thourism potential in Turkey (Natural and cultural attractions). The alternative thourizm activities and their applications.

Coğ 413 Geographical Principles of Sustainable Development (2-2)

Definition of sustainable development and conseptual limit, carrying cappacity of the natural environment and ecolo gical anxiety on the world. Social and economic developmental models which convenient to carrying capacity and Turkey.

Coğ 415 Land-use in Rural and Urban Settlements (2-2)

Capability and using form of rural settlements and surrounding land-using. Alternative forms. Capability and using form of urban lands. Land use forms of city interior and the surroundings (dwelling, industry, trade-service and gren areas). The examples from world and Turkey. The problems arise from land usage and alternatives.
